Lots of work ahead of me
I was just wondering, for all of you that have restored your camaro what was the first step?
Right now I do not have the funds for a welder to fix my floor pans. I built the engine and trans but the only thing I have left is interior and wiring. I want to start my interior but there is too much rot to make it worth doing right now.
So my question is where did you start on the wiring in engine compartment or interior. What gauge wiring should i use and where can i buy it in bulk? The guy I bought the car from butchered the wiring.
Thanks,
Chas

Not really answering your question, but the floor pans shouldn't been too bad to get fixed. Just go buy some sheet metal, cut out the floor pan with a dremel tool, and find a red neck with a welder to weld in the sheet metal. At least, that's what I did.

Well for drivetrain you start at the rear end and work your way forward. It depends on what you wanna do. If it were me and I had all the space in the world. Id completely strip the car down to a rolling chassis. Fix all metal and perform all bodywork I could. Then I do wiring. You can buy bulk wiring from a lot of places. But depending on whta kind of engine etc you can buy a Painless wiring harness. I dont know if they offer a complete new chassis wiring harness. After that I then woudl attend to drivetrain, installing transmission and engine. Then go to interior etc. But others may go different routes.

For the interior I am trying to find a set of 4th gen seats in good condition, I am also in the process of making a custom center console (I want cup holders and my gauges inside of it.)
Wiring I am trying to find a good starting point. I have nothing on the engine that uses the stock electrical except the starter. I will be removing all heater core and A/C equipment along with the blower. I believe the computer is still inside the car (originally TPI car) so that will be removed also.
The body doesn't have any exterior problems except for a huge hole in the hood where I had a tunnel ram intake sticking out so I will be buying a sunoco style hood. The inner wheel wells have some rot and I'm having a hard time finding replacements. As mentioned the floor pans and driver's side rockers need replacing as well.
So I have my work cut out for me.
So my other question is where might I be able to find inner wheel wells? I found floor pans for sale but I am considering buying sheet metal and just welding/forming it as best as I can.
Thanks,
Chas
