rear hatch motor question plz help
ok i am restoring my 87 irocz camaro and the body shop asked for me to replace the hatch motor when i pulled everything out all the wires have been cut for some reason witch tells me why it never worked but yea after redoing the wiring after 4 hours i installed the new hatch pull down motor and when i connected the power it went up i was so happy that it worked only to be disappointed when i closed the hatch it wouldnt go down and then i found out the relay was missing so after a few hours goin to part stores i finally went to the dealer and got one and connected it up. the button in the car releases the hatch but when i closed it it still didnt go down so after 3 more hours of fiddling wit it i gave up and came here did a search and nothing.
and i had my mech. help me do the wiring but there is one thing wrong the white wire that goes from the switch at the top of the mechanism that goes to the relay half way there is a lil plastic peice with another white wire comming out and i cant find what it connects to

The little thing in the white wire is a diode. It allows current flow one may only. Like a valve. Part of the hatch motor mechanism is a reversing switch. It controls the direction of current in the motor. One way the mechanism goes up the other way it goes down. When the hatch is closed it should be pulled down and at the end of its travel you should hear a click as the switch is moved down. When you open the hatch the motor will wind the latch up and at the top of its travel it must flip the switch again. Sounds like either your switch is not getting flipped or it's not working. Check the adjustment on the latch and visually check the position of the switch. You'll see it in there, it's an obvious up down switch. If it is flipping then test it to make sure it works. The output polarity will change.

Then the next thing to check is the sensor where the hatch pull down loop goes down into the latch. There is a little wedge shaped switch (follow the wire). That's what tells the assembly to start pulling down. You can push it closed with a screw driver or something. If the pull down doesn't start it's either defective or the wiring isn't right. You can jump the wires that go to the that switch. If the pull down works the switch is bad. If not then something else. Hard when you can't see the wiring. Are you sure all the wires were connected back up the right way?

i am like 80% sure the wires are connected the right way jus cant find where that extra white wire goes or the random ground wire.
i am posting some links to the pics i took of the wiring and of the switch and if i press it down the unit doesnt move down like its supossed to.... is there suposed to be power goin to the switch?

When I worked on mine I drew a complete circuit diagram but can't find it now. The switch in the first pic is what tells the unit to start moving. The reversing switch will dictate which way it moves. I think the sensor switch is wired through the diode somehow. I'd need to take the cover off again and look to see exactly how it all goes. Tomorrow?

Re: rear hatch motor question plz help
I know the spare white wire is for the trunk light that is attached to the big plastic rear cover. The spare ground I'm not sure about. Have you tried grounding it? Sorry can't be of much more help other than to say make sure all the wires are connected and test the parts you can. I sat down with the unit on the kitchen table and took it apart and probed every wire with an ohmeter and drew a diagram. I independently jumped the motor from a battery then jumped directly to the reversing switch in both settings to make make sure it was working. Then the sensor switch. But I needed the diagram to know which contacts to touch. It's tough when you can't see it and touch it. The part I was never sure about was the relay because I couldn't figure out the internals and didn't want to take it apart. I bought another one but I put the unit all back together and installed it the original relay worked. I must have had a bad connection somewhere but I needed to replace the guides anyway.
