taillight conversion

this might seem a bit odd but i searched and could not find anything, maybe this has never been done before, but my idea is to weld panels in to smooth out where the taillights curently are and dropping in a set of 69 camaro lights with reverse lights. i know the outside angle might not be exact but i am confident that i can fix that problem if it pops up. what does everyone think? i just really hate the way the stock lights look and want to do something different.

Re: taillight conversion

You could use pieces from a Firebird (cut out at a junkyard) to fill in those areas, since they don't have wrap-around lights.

But then you'll probably need to put in some rear side marker lights like the Firebirds or 1st gens do, since the 3rd gen Camaros rear side marker lights are part of the wrap-around. Transplanting the Firebird ones would be easy, if you cut the piece out to fill in the wrap-around are big enough to include the side markers too.

I really hadn't put too much thought into that as the car will be mostly just a drag car. I just want something that I'm not afraid to show off too. I might even smooth the whole back end and make it a little more like a 1st gen.

Re: taillight conversion

I don't know, where mine came from....PO did it....It's one piece that goes from quarter panel to the other quarter.....It's made out of fiberglass & has holes for ZR-1 tail lights .....How ever just fill holes in and cut for what ever light you want.....there are no rear side maker lights ....no tickets ( yet ) .....mine is a little different from other inserts that I've seen....all the ones I've seen don't have back up lights ....mine dose

Hope this helps ....
