bumper ground effects question

would it be possible to take the lower ground effects and fog lights from an 85 trans am and fit it to a 82-84 bumper, i would like to ad a lip to my 83 similar to the pace car style but i then i thought it would be nice to have a spot for fog lights

dose the whole white part separate from this type of bumper or just the fender parts, if it dont unbolt or unclip, then i am thinking of cutting that bottom part off and basically adding some kind of clips to it to make it fit into that grove at the bottom of my bumper, as well i will be adding the rest of the ground effect's around the doors and at the back, the main reason for doing this and not swapping to the whole 85 bumper is i love the 82-84 style and i think it gives the car more personality than other years, not to offend any one with any of the other styles , this is just my favorite,

i really dont know much about Photoshoping stuff like this but i would appreciate if someone that knows how to do it would try to show me what it would look like thanks

Re: bumper ground effects question

They do not come off the front bumper like the Camaros do. It is 1 piece. You could find an 84 trans am front bumper and use it. It has the ground effects and the inserts like you want. That would be a much simpler and cheaper route probably. No fog lights, but you could cut those in if you really wanted them.

As was said they are one piece with the bumper. I do not know how you would do it but if done neatly I agree with you it could be very good looking. You might (unsure of those bumpers) be able to put a fog/driving light behind the bumper grill as an alternative with the 84 style ground effects. I personally like the lights in the 85 style though.

Re: bumper ground effects question

yea i got an idea how to do this i just haven't figured out exactly what is going to work ,but it should be very easy to cut the bottom off the 85 trans am bumper and make it fit flush with the lip recess on the firebird bumper the trick will be attaching it i know those cheep auto zone scoops and all kinds of vent-shades attach with double sides tape but i am not sure if i would trust that on a front lip, an other option would be some kind of epoxy glue, it would have to be something strong and probably something that would be flexible as to not crack and fall out, last option would be some kind os screws but i would have to find a spot that isn't visible or it would look terrible

Re: bumper ground effects question

You would have to mold it together for any chance of it to last. Tape, glue, etc will not work. You could rivet it together, then mold it with some filler or Poly-Flex, but it will be a huge undertaking. Good luck, and make sure you research this a ton before you get too involved.

Re: bumper ground effects question

i have molded bumpers together before but i find it dont work with these kind's of bumpers , i have found that fiberglass bumpers are usually the ones that respond best to being molded, my sunfire had it's front bumper molded 3 years ago no problems it was fiberglass, this urethane/rubber-flex bumpers seam to move to much to last, there is a "glue" i was thinking would work for this but i got to search around to find it, it seen it used before to hold on the wide body quarts to a mazda or something
