Getting ready for paint

i have a 88 iroc, orig. black. im wanting to paint it red,and have the headlight buckets black,i have scuffed the paint, but my question is when i paint the car, should i paint the whole car red "light buckets" and then tape the rest of the car off and paint the buckets black,or should i tape the buckets off paint the car red,and then tape the rest of the care off,and paint the buckets black? this is going to be my first attempt at painting,i figured you have to do it to learn...planning on using the summit paint system. again didnt take the car down to bare metal, just scuffed it.thanks for your time. any other tips or tricks i should do??

i took the doors off,and i might take the fenders/nose piece off. im thinking i might be able to paint those where they sit though..what do you guys do? thanks alot
