My key locks on both doors lost their black finish years ago and are down to their chrome finish or whatever it is underneath.

whats the best way to prep these for paint besides the generic clean, scuff, prime, then paint?

anything out of the ordinary to make sure the paint sticks?

 

I just go to the dealer and buy new covers from them. They can be replaced fairly easy and I do it every few years.

 

i didn't even think they had covers? i assumed it was paint, i'll ask around thanks


any chance that you take a picture of your finished locks?

 

I'm inside making supper or I would. I have a drawer of these covers and key doors that my GM dealer gave me. Handy, when ya buy enuff parts they become very fiendly..

Take the locks out of the door, Peel off the old cover and install the new ones by bending the 4 tabs to hold it on.
pay attention to the key door and how its installed
