1992 Camaro RS - Paint Peel Repair?

Hello, I am new to this forum and am considering buying a 1992 Camaro RS. It's is good mechanical condition, but has a few dings on the body. My main concern though is the paint peeling it has especially on the hood and the roof (plus a small amount near the rear spoiler).

Is this something that is going to cost a lot to repair? Or is it something that I can repair myself to make it look "good enough"? Thanks!

The paint on these cars is terrible. I've seen far worse, but it's an expensive repair unless you want to do it yourself, even then it's still expensive.

Re: 1992 Camaro RS - Paint Peel Repair?

Well, I bought the car. A proper paint job is not likely in the works for this calendar year, but if I get all the other fixes done, I'll save up and it will be the priority for 2013.

I know this would not be the long-term solution, but is there any harm in touching up the areas that are exposed and not blue (per the photos)? My thought is that it really can't be any worse than not touching up and leaving it as-is, right?

also, if you plan on getting a real paint job, you can get a can of clear spray paint and spot some of the missing areas so it doesnt rust or peel more untill you can get a proper job done (i have the same problem but cant afford a good paint job, it helps alot for preventing rust)

The paint flaked off the primer. Leave it alone until you're ready to fix it correctly. If you mess with it now, it will look worse and be a pain to fix when you are planning to do it. It won't rust in one year since it's not bare metal. It's probably been like that for awhile already.

Why would touching it up be worse than showing those big spots of primer? Neither is great of course nor as good as a proper strip and paint job would be, but just trying to understand why touchign up is worse.

Also, what is the best "gentle" way to wash the car? I don't want to have more paint fleck off of course. Just a low pressure hose and by hand?
