How to replace lower pin bushing/washer

My 1984 Camaro's driver's side door rattles and when closing doesn't look like its quite aligned. Also when closing the door from being wide open it seems to jump like the hinge had to roll over a bump or something. I took a look and for some reason it seems that the pin is missing its lower bushing.

I was wondering if this sounds like the cause of the problems or if it's something else.

Also, what would I have to do to replace the pin's lower bushing? Do I have to take off the door?

Thanks.

I just did this on my Camaro but it didnt fix the problem I had. You need to buy Dorman 703-266 (I did because my bushings had spines, it was Part# 30402 at Advanceauto but had 4 bushings). Remove the spring from the door with a big pry bar or similar. The remove the pin..I used vise grips in the center of the pin and a hammer. Then remove the panel that covers the two bolts (15MM) inside the car, finally remove the outside bolt with a 13MM wrench (kind of a small space I put my hand in the fender and it was easier). Now get the hinge out you might need to move the door to weasel it out, took me like 10 minutes because I had no help. Take the hinge inside vise it, and pop the bushings out 1 at a time or remember the way the go back in. Then take a new bushing coat it in grease or oil. Place it in place, get a thin piece of wood like a painter stick use vise grips gently to start the bushing in the hole slowly. I then gently hammered the rest of the bushing in place. Repeat both sides.

For the spring, I put the spring in a vise with two allen wrenches on each side in the middle of the spring. Vised the spring in between two allen wrenches and used one zip tie on one side of the allen wrench and one zip tie on the other side. Then I slowly released it, grabbed a glove for my left hand place it on the car put pressure on the spring while cutting the zip tie so the spring doesn't just pop out of place. Grabbed a knife for the other zip tie while still placing pressure on it. Then your done.

No, it turned out to be my fender that was not aligned with my door because of someone improperly jacking the car. Check to make sure the Roller wheel is clear of gunk (the wheel next to the spring). Replace that lower pin and bushings. Then go from there, the rattle could be internal (inside door).

You may need to replace the lower detent pin and roller. Look at the detent bar as you close the door and see if the roller is rolling smoothly or if it is getting cocked as the detent bar moves on it causing the detent bar to jump. I seel them on my site as well as the lower pin and bushings.
