VHT Nightshade to Front Directionals...
I just did my front directionals today and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. I took everyone's advice on here and they came perfect. Some people did a few things different but this is what I did and they look like they came that way.
Supplies
- VHT Nightshade
- Dupli-Color Clear Coat
- 800 grid sandpaper
- Bowl of water
- Cleaning agent
- Painter's tape
1. Remove lenses.
2. Clean lenses with a good grease cutter in soapy water.
3. Wet sanded Lenses with 800 grid sand paper and water.
4. Taped up lenses with painters tape.
5. 3 coats of Nightshade 10-15 minutes between coats.
6. About 6 hours later: 5 coats of clear coat 10-15 minutes between coats (when Clear Coat is wet it looks "milky" DON'T FREAK OUT like I did, it dries shiny).
7. 6 hours after that: took tape off and put them back on the Bird.
They came out just the right tint and nice and glossy. Thanks for all the help. I'll do anything to make the Formula look more like it rose from Hell after the end of the world...for the Terminators to drive!

The following pics are of: 1. After 3 Coats of VHT Nightshade, 2. Wet after 5 coats of clear coat - they look "milky" it goes away when they dry and 3. all dry with 3 coats Night Shade and 5 Coats Clear Coat.

mille_3 - My bad, here you go. I took this picture in the middle of the day. Directionals with VHT Nightshade. Just get out from under the weight bench and play a little Danzig when you look at the picture!

MNFormula350 - Looks good on the red bird! They look like they belong black on your car too. Are you going to tint the side Marker Lights? Very nice Whip.

Looks good, but did not need to do all that work. I have been useing Nite Shades for years and all I ever do it clean the lense good, dry it then spay, if i want them very dark i will do 5-8 coats, for lighter look 3-4 coats. Once dry and back on the vehicle I then polish them out with wax or glaze and they look perfect. I never sand before or CC them after. In fact I just did my trucks taillight last month and they look like they came smoked from the factory.

2007Xl50 - Thanks. You are more of an expert than me. The issue I've seen when skipping the wet sanding phase is the numbers and letters on the lenses don't take to the nightshade too well. I sand them off. And from my limited experience, the ones without the clear coat are super dull. Also from what I read they don't last as long, fade, without the wetsanding and clear coat. What product exactly do you wax them with?
I got my clear front marker lights in the mail today and tinting them now.

Re: VHT Nightshade to Front Directionals...
I completed tinting my Front Marker Lights. I got the clear ones off ebay. I followed the same procedure I did on the Front Directionals.
1. clean 2. Wet sand 3. 3 coats tint 4. 5 coats CC.
I had to get them to match the tint on the Rear Marker Lights and they match perfectly.
Then I put in LEDs bulbs on the front/rear marker lights (194 Jam Strait Hyper-Bright 194A Amber & 194R Red). Looks cool.
