Door Lock Assembly

Question,
I have an 84' Z28, my Drivers door lock assembly is screwed up, ok. Will a Door Lock Assembly off a base model third gen work? I need the info by tommorow as i am going to the junk yard where they have a base model. And see if i can get the assembly off that car. so, are they interchangable? Thanks for all the info that you can give me.

The locks are the same. If your orginial lock is just hanging up you can take it to your local GM dealership and they should be able to rebuild it. My local dealership has rebuilt my driver's before. You may also want to try spraying some WD 40 into the lock itself. The dealership can also rekey the lock so it will work with your orginial key so you won't have to carry around an extra key.

Never use WD-40 on the lock mechanism itself where the key goes. The wd-40 will attract dust & dirt and gum up the lock. Always use a graphite powder lubricant on the lock. It won't attract the dirt and your lock will work much better.

The lock Assembly is not the lock. It's the part where the catch is. Anyways, it's broken, non repairable, i have allready looked at it. Where the Catch is, is totally broken, the spring and the whole right side of the assembley is coming off. Thats why i was going to replace it. Tues or wneds are my days off, and i will play with it then. I really hate getting in on the pass side!!!
