Is it possible to remove the thin black trim piece on 90-up Firebird doors to allow replacement of the fabric portion of the door panel? I'm not talking about the support assembly,just the trim piece that runs along the edge of the fabric.

After removing the panel assembley from the door, the top plastic portion can be removed. They use inverted stamped steel nuts that thread onto plastic ****.

MAC makes a took for these nuts, not sure if your local auto parts store will have this tool. It is a hollow hexagonal tip.

You can get creative with pliers. Use care not to break the **** off of the plastic trim piece.

Actually,after having the door panel off yesterday I discovered that the thin black piece is in fact metal. It's held in place by tabs that are bent after they go through the panel to hold it in place. Now to find some black Metrix cloth to replace the grey.
