Aftermarket Steering Wheel on Airbag Cars
Aftermarket Steering Wheel on Airbag Cars
Me and GOFASTER would like to know how to go about finding a column kit for cars that came equipped with airbags.
Will the 89 and older kits work?
How does the steering wheel come apart?
I've seen it done, so I don't want to hear any lip

Hey Mike,
I am currently installing an after market wheel on my 1990 Z.
Ensure that you disconnect the positve battery terminal. Then remove the panel under neath the dash. There is a "yellow" wire that you also must detatch to deactive the airbag. Then removing the wheel is easy. There are two bolts on the reverside of the steering wheel. You will need a sterring wheel puller though. I have yet to start on mine though.
I have also heard that the air bag symbol will stay on since the circuit will not be closed becuase of the absence of the air bag.....if that's tru..then that sucks!

My SIR warning light stayed on since I bought my car,so I disabled the SIR circuit and the warning light went off.So if you disable it at the right point, the warning light shouldn't come on.
