he claims its a 1985 trans am, but it has the black wrap around spoiler on it. i was under the impression that the wrap around spoiler was NOT availible in 85, i thought '86 was the first year of the black wrap around spoiler. every 85 trans am i have ever seen had the pedastool spoiler. so was the 1985 trans am availible with the black wrap around spoiler?
there are pics of the car in question at the following address http://www.angelfire.com/pa3/jm5o/friend.html the pics are at the very very bottom of the page. (its blue with silver ground trim)

Run the VIN through the decoder, unless he's the only owner. Someone might've liked that style and put it on. I have an 86Z but don't have the CHMSL on the top of the hatch glass. Turns out someone swapped hatches after an accident, I actually have a firebird hatch. The VIN says 86Z though, I believe that over the body

The car is correct. The aerowing spoiler was displayed in the 1985 PMD brochure on the T/A, but I don't think that many were put on that year.....
Personally, I've never seen an '85 T/A with one on it..... they always have the pedestal flat spoiler.

i agree. it was an option for Trans am's in '85. Option code D81, cost 199.00. The other one is D80 and it went for 70.00

Of coarse that's an '85. My friend has two. They all had that nose from '85 to '90, and a wrap around spoiler. I'm not sure if it was that exact spoiler sytle all the way to 90, because they changed the syle of them slightly, before '92 sometime.
