Go for an Autometer. For around $100 you get a totally accurate, good looking 120 or 160 mph speedo. The reason for the 140 stock speedo is for later models is it's an electronic speedo. I'm having almost the same problem. What you will need is an adapter from mechanical to electric. But it'll have to be installed in the dash because of the speed sensor that the computer talks to. If you don't have that hooked up, you get a "check engine" light. But I'm in california and I need the computer for smog reasons. If you don't, then just get the adapter and use it at the tail of the tranny.

Seeing now what I didn't before shows me that you don't apply to the smog laws (tee hee!!) by the fact that you have a 5.7 (350) Actually, maybe you are still smog compliant. I'm going to make the move from the 5.0 to 5.7 also. I think that keeping legal is the least expensive in the long run.

Thoughts?

Pretty cool. What kind of racing do you like better, road or drag? If road, where do you go? I usually go into the local mountains around here. If drag, what do you run?

i dont really race. and ive never been to the track. i want to though.. i do like racing ricers and mustangs at lights. of course i beat them. the only thing ive lost to was a 1970 or something 440 Roadrunner. but i was very close.
