Block that bad stuff

I got my ss hood on my 91 rs and I wanted to hook up an open air element. What could I put on there beforehand to block out the rain and dirt when i want to? And if there is something where can i get it?

thank you,
anthony

If you put a grill on the opening (I thought it came with one?) it should work wonders, otherwise, get fancy and mount a motorized flap, like on the early 3rdgen TA's.

It did come with a grill. But the holes will definitly let water in. Where can I get one of those motorized flaps? it sounds like a great idea.

thanks

I just used some screen mesh from your local home depot style store to keep the big stuff out (leaves, trash, stuff that people want to try to jam in there.) The dirt and rain will be kept out by the air filter - just be prepared to clean/change it more often.

The vacuum actuated assembly you can find off of a Trans Am with the "power bulge - cowl induction" style hood. You may have more serious issues trying to get it to work with the SS hood, since it's almost going to be completely backwards from the original installation. However, that being the case, it's just a vacuum actuated device so it shouldn't be too difficult - if you're determined to do it.
