Parking with headlights up?
Break the motor that lifts them when they are up, or just twist the little ***** in the motor until they are stuck up tho dont know why you'd want this...to me that signifies a white trash bird.

when the headlights are on, unplug the wires going to the motors. That way, you two, can have the white trash ******* look that you've always wanted.

That is kinda whitetrash. If I had a bird I wouldn't want my headlights up all the time. That just tells me that they are broken.

For your "rich kid" information, I happen to be dyed in the wool white trash, so blow it out your "mommy and daddy paid for it" exhaust.
As for the question, I can't say I like the look either, but Jim85IROC had the correct answer. If you want to leave them up, just unplug the motors once they are up. Or for the always visible headlight look, you can buy an ugly Camaro.

My "white-trash bird" is so white trash that I don't think it mattered when I fixed this problem. I just installed another switch to my arsenal of buttons and switches that makes them go up and down. Then I installed a switch for the lights since the stock one died. If I wanted to, (which I do sometimes) I can leave my lights up!!!! "Ain't I neat?" (where is that line from? anyone?)

I agree that I really don't care for the look but, hey, to each his own. On my car I don't have to mess with the motors or wiring or anything like that. The bar that pushed the lights up and pulls it down; just take your hand and either pull it or push it till it locks. It stops the light from going down and if you want it down just take your hand and remove it from the locked position.
Guys, c'mon, he JUST signed up. He has 2 posts for God's sake! Don't make him hate us already. If you have a personal opinion on his proposed question, fine, just don't put him down. Maybe he likes the look. Who cares? If you have the answer to the question, then just state it, but keep the opinions to yourself. Just my $.02 on the matter
That's the problem with this board. There are a bunch of people here who think that because they have a lot of knowledge about thirdgens that that makes it okay for them to insult people and put them down. If you don't want to help the guy out then just keep quiet. You learned a lot of stuff about thirdgens by asking questions. How would you feel if people said, "What a moron. Don't you know anything?" or "That's a stupid question." Anyway, TransAm1982 305, open the hood, turn the ***** that move the headlights up and down to the up position and they will always stay up.

Sorry TransAm1982 305. Welcome to the board. (I critized without ever seeing it. I parked mine with my lights up and ya know what?! it does look pretty cool.) Once again, sorry for the criticism.
No critisism intended by me, just chippin in my 2 cents.....plus I did tell him how you can do it

cmon guys...lets face it...flip-up lights that stay up look like @ss. i would expect an honest answer if i posted something on this board. and i think by us being honest from the getgo, like people were with me, i would continue to respect others opinions. as long as you listen to the message and not the messenger, you will probably always walk away alittle more smart, whether it was bullsh|t or not...

IMHO, flip up headlights always look like crap in the 'on' position. Turned off they look awesome. The C5 has a nice dual headlight design that looks better than most other flipup lights in the 'on' position. Look at the latest Lamborghini Diablo. The designers borrowed the headlight design from the 300ZX to improve aerodynamics, but lost that amazing look it had with the headlights down.
It's just a matter of personal taste I guess. Mine dictates that 'birds would look a lot better with dual headlights like C5s, but still wouldn't look anywhere as good as the Camaro. It's like that BMW ad "The eyes are the window to the soul" - there's something about the Camaro's headlights that just makes it look bad @SS.

Hahaha, Camaro headlights look @ss?? Hahaha, only reason ANY solid mount headlights look good is when they are flush mounted, when they are set back they just look unaerodynamic... Camaro headlights look @ss...hahaha, that is funny. :-)
And I OWN a Camaro!!

Hey i didnt care about the smart a$$ remarks. Just thanks to everyone(a lot of you) who replied. its just that winter is coming up and i dont want them to freeze shut. i do also think it is a nice looking design. once sping comes, ill put them back down.
I agree with the fact that camaro headlights looks freaking mean as ****. I dont give a hell if they are areodynamic or not, Im sure Im not losing a good 15hp because of it, I just think they look plain mean, especially when you have the headlight area blacked out, it almost looks like they are squinting at you! *L* no, but really, I do think that the way camaro headlights are, really gives them alot of attitude.

well gentlemen, after hearing everyones opinions, it just illustrates the fact that these 2 cars the firebird and the camaro are the same cars basicly, but the fact remains that there are several differences between the two that some likes the look of the aerodynamic firebird, sleek and stealth, and some like the look of the camaros, bold, and tough. just this example about the lights proves the fact as what makes this board so great.
if you got the camaro, the lights look good up, why, BECAUSE THEY WHERE DESIGNED TO BE THAT WAY!!!
if you got a firebird, the lights look better down during the day because, THEY WERE DESIGNED TO BE THAT WAY!! if you dont like the way they look at night up, then invest in some good lights that mount in your front fascia. i have seen some excellant examples on this, and serves as a great alternative to the problem..

yea you guys are just gonna ruin it for everyone else getting lippy with people! They will just try to start stuff on here if they get these types of replys. Just my thoughts. Kevin.
In response to formula90 and someone else's post on personal views, I just remembered an email I got on what a car says about it's drivers:
Camaro: I enjoy beating the h*ll out of people.
Firebird/Trans Am: I have a switchblade in my sock.
My personal favorite was
Ferrarri Testerosa: I am known to ejaculate prematurely.

Parking with the headlights up or down for looks is personal taste but it does have a benefit. While my Camaro doesn't have hideaway headlights my Nissan 240SX does. It also has a switch(as many import cars do) to leave the lights up all the time. If I had a TA, I would wire a switch in line so I could controll the up/down position of the lights regardless of the lights/car being on or off. The two benefits of this are whenever it's raining or night I leave them up for less wear on the motors since I'd need them up to drive anyway. Secondly, I've seen many American cars(unfortunately) with broken motorized headlights and nothing looks dumber then one light up and one light down. With the switch you could power up the working light and manually crank up the other. When you shut the car/lights, they would both still be up. Alot better then one up,one down. Just my 2 cents.

Hey XXRooXX
How did you get your bumper looking like that to accept the Kitt Scanner? Is there some mods you have to do to it, or can you buy it that way?

EASY,get two relays from autozone or where ever, add an on/off switch to your interior, wire it so when it's on power is applied to the relays to "cut off" current, wire it to an ACC "hot in run" fuse so you don't drain your battery, put a relay on the positive lead going to each motor,I'm sure you can get at each wire with out removing the lights,if not, just pull the bulbs. as far as I can remember there are more than two wires going to each motor, most likely a reverse polarity circuit or a saftey sensor circuit to kill the power when the motors are at the stops up or down,,use a test meter to discover which one you want to interupt, apply the switch "on" 12v to each relay,so the relays shut off the "down voltage" to each motor,do this just when you shut the lights off so you don't wear out the relays, once the car is off,no more power is applied anywhere in your circuit and the lights never made their way down.
geeez guys,it's not like this dude's trying to install a 3' wing or a neon license plate frame,if you live in the artic circle during the winter or somewhere like that,it could preserve your motors,I don't mind mine being funtional because the motors are easy to change out,$10-20 at the *junkyard* not quite pocket sized...so they're not free
mine havn't died yet,and I have a spare at my dads house, thats one department I need not worry about.
