Door Locks
Door Locks
When I bought my '86 camaro I didn't figure out that the door locks were busted. The keys seem to not go in all the way and it seems that the part that you insert the key into is all messed up.(power door locks don't work ither, makes a clicking sound when I push the button, but the locks don't move) I am wondering how hard it is to replace the lock system. Then entire lock system may not be messed up, but since the power locks wont work I am gussing that the entire lock components are all jacked. What tools will I need? I am not planning on putting a new GM lock system in it. I am first going to go to the junk yard and try to find a '80's camaro lock system. If not then I will buy one from napa or somthing. Just for the hell of it, what would a GM lock system cost?
Last I checked a tumbler with key did not cost all that much. Any parts store should carry the kit.
Get into the inside of your door via taking the inside panel off (carefully) and looking at the lock from the inside. It could be that the "arms" that move the lock have been bent or knocked off due to wear OR a possible break-in attempt with a Slim Jim.
