Ok, here we go. Bullfrawg and I are having an argument.

This is what he says:

4 way = seat moves forward and backward
and back leans forward and back

6 way seat
1-2 (tilt/move up,down)3-4 seat moves forward and back5-6 back leans forward and back

This is what I say:

I say the reclining back doesn't count toward this. And that the tilt, up, and down aren't all the same action, I know they use the same motors, but they use them in different ways.

I think the way 6 ways work are forward/back, tilt, and then another set... such as power lumbar supports and other stuff like that. Some seats have power lower back adjustments (not in 3rd gens as far as I know)

I think the "other set" is straight up and straight down. That's the way my mom and dad's crown vics work. My camaro would work like that but the power seat never worked from the time I got it.

My car has 6-way drivers seat and they are as follows: One is front/back, other is up/down, but doesn't go straight up and down, but sort of tilts the seat at the same time, and the 3rd one is tilt, which sort of tilts the seat on an axis at the rear of the seat.

I am mainly saying a 4-way manual seat moves forward and backward and the back of the seat reclines up and down. He says that this seat would be 2-way. He also says that the 4-way seat moves forward, backward, tilts front and rear, and the back reclines. But i know he is wrong. On my project car it has the code AAA which is 4-way seats. I know it has the stock seats in it and they just move forward, backward, and the back reclines up and down.

You idiot! It has nothing to do with seatback reclining. All it deals with is the movement of the whole seat.

Got Ya! My firebird book says that models with the optional manual 4-way seat, can tilt and move back and forth. It shows you how to do this with the two handles under the seat. Then on the next page it shows you how to recline the back of the seat. HA HA.

P.S. I didn't tell Pick to say that.

You both are morons. IF not show me a tilting bench seat in a 65 chevy truck. They had 4-way seats. They slide back and forth and the back leaned forward and back.
What do you call the seats with no back adjustment? 1 way? they move 2 ways front and back.

In my grandpa and grandma's Lincoln Town Car the thing has like a 10-way power seat. The seat can move back and forth. The front can go up and down. The back can go up and down. The whole seat can go up and down. And the back tilts forward and backward. Plus it has power lumbar, very nice

I have 6-way seats out of a 97 Camaro.
-Front/Back
-Up/Down
-Tilt (bottom portion of seat)
That also makes the back move...but only because the whole seat is moving. If you want to just recline the back there's still the good ol' handle. For newer seats you have to go up to the 10-way with **** massage for the back to recline.

Ok there is my proof, a six way seat does this

forward/back
tilt forward/back
up/down

and the back reclines, so if the back reclining counted it would be an 8 way, be we all know that fbody power seats are 6 way and no higher, not yet anyway.

My seats in my 1983 TA are six way. They tilt, they move front and back, and they move up and down. They are definitely 6 way seats, and not 4.

Bullfrawg is saying that the recline function is 2 of the "ways" so he's saying your 6 way seat is an 8 way.

The seat reclining has nothing to do with it being a 4-way or 6-way.

I just had a set of seats reupholstered and they are RECARO seats out of an 86 T/A. The passengers goes foward, back and reclines. The drivers is power and the front button makes it go up and down in the front. The rear button makes it go up and down in the rear. The center button makes the whole seat move foward and back AND up and down, **** in side for recline. So the passengers I would assume is a 4 way and drivers a 10 way???????? This really is confusing....

The tilt motion(that the flat switches on the ends do) are all two motions, tilt 1 forward/2 back, the center is two(3 up/4 down), the center ****(5 forward/6 back).

The recline isn't a motion that the whole seat does, it's just the back of the seat.

Thank you Omar!

Notice how the reclining seat is in the next section(not the six way section).

I would scan my book but my scanner is broke.

but i think the whole seat is referred to as a 8-way seat because it also has a manual 2-way recline.
