Rough bumper covers -- Please help

I purchased an '84 Z as a project car that was in pretty sad shape. I'm prepairing the car for paint but the front and rear bumper covers have many thick coats of multi colored paint on them. Has anyone ever taken these down to the plastic and what is the easiest way of doing it? Auto strippers say not to use on plastic but sanding will take forever. Any experienced insight would be appreciated.

Go for the stripper,,, just don't let it sit forever on the bumpers. Usually (at least the few I've seen used) won't go thru every coat of paint,, you might be able to strip it down to a sandable level.

option 2,,, just flex the bumper,,, it should crack the paint making it easy to just chip off (never know,,,)

get a very fine grit sandpaper or maybe one of those black and decker mouse sanders ... don't use the really coarse grit because if you're not careful you can put grooves into it, and thats not very good... easiest way to do it is flex it as you're sanding
