85/86 T-Top question

Oke here is the problem.

When we bought the car most plastic was laying in the trunk en the headliner for the T-Top was not present anymore.

Now we found a new headliner and all BUT ..... we know you have the plastic in the back , to hold it up. On the sides and of course at the front window.
We also have the plastic piece that runs through the middle of the car ( it has the domelight and all on it ).

What we are trying to find out is if there is plastic from the front to the back on the sides going to the roof or if the headliner is just " laying down " there. Or did it maybe get glued to the metal roof or stuck behind the rubber of the windows ???

Any help or even pics of your car will help us out a lot.

Rhiannon

No,it basically is held up in the center with the dome light, and if I'm correct, their should be a strip of Velcro in the center front(above the mirror ) and in the back, their is a plastic piece that goes from side to side(trim).
Also your sun visors, seat belts, sail panels and coat hangers keep it in place.

But in front should be "two large plastic clips that are glued/molded into the headliner, and they insert into corresponding holes in the car’s roof" if you have only the small dome light like mine. See - https://www.thirdgen.org/ttops2 for a nice how to on removal and installation. The head liner in these pics is an abs plastic backed repo sold by Hawks - http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pr...un-Visors.html Installs the same as the original.

Re: 85/86 T-Top question

Thanks a lot the both of you. We indeed have the velcro and the two clips. As it is we actually found a original headliner but we have to redo the fabric which seems to give us more headaches right now.

If it does not work out I am going to go with the plastic liner indeed seems to give less trouble.

As I said we just didn't know if their was anything going alone side the tops middle but seeing both pics their is nothing there.

Re: 85/86 T-Top question

The plastic head liner is not a perfect replacement. It is sturdy, self supporting and does not use the Velcro or the clips, but it does not flex / fit as well as the original. I had to notch mine to make it fit at the A-Pillar. Other than that I am very happy with it.
