How hard would it be to biuld a center console?

Okay my center console looks like crap, and I was thinking of trying to build a new one out of plywood about 1/2" thick. I could cover the sides with carpet and the top with vinyl. Has anyone ever done this on any car? Is is hard?

Well although I have never done it I did see one like you described while i was poking around a junk yard. It was all carpet and stuck up about in inch to high in the back.
It looked like crap but if you can duplicate and improve the factory model and cover it nicely that might be sweet.

i would definetly reccommend fiberglass or carbon fiber if you got the cash. if you dont have the cash or dont have knowledge with the material then the plywood could work nicely if your a good wood worker.

i would think that a boneyard would have it for a good price. Might save you a lot of trouble.

Here's a different angle on that- Why not re-cover your existing "crap" center console?
