hi, i bought a 4th gen console out of a 97 camaro and put it in my 91 rs. the bottom part fits good, but the shifter doesn't fit/work right. do i need to get a 4th gen shifter as well in order for it to work? also is there a trick/way to rig something up for the heater controls and the radio? i don't have any radio brackets out of the 4th gen. is there some way i could use the original 3rd gen radio/heater mounting with the 4th gen console? hope someone can help. thank you.

I've heard that its an easier swap if you buy a console from a car with a stick, so you dont have to worry about the holes lining up as much. I dont know about the other stuff though.

I tried this w/ a 4th gen 6 speed shifter and it never fit thanks to the AT being so darn huge on mine! I ended up sticking my stock center console back in....

so you're saying that a shifter from a 4th gen won't work with it either?

The way it works on the firebirds, if you have an automatic, buy a center console from a manual trans car.

I'm assuming that it would be the same for the camaro's.

The console from the manual trans 4th gen's has enough clearance for the shift linkage, the auto console does not.

That looks really good, I've seen it done. Try to keep this post visible cause I think I saw someone here with a fourthgen console on his bird.

Well I know have a 4th gen console in my 92 bird, but I need to rework the radio pod or build a new one to get the fit right at the front. New console bolted right in to the rear mounts, but can't use the middle mount attached to the shifter (new console mount faces down where 3rd gen faces more forward) but this doesn't seem to be a big deal at all.

I'll post pics when I finally finish it up.
