New Black Paint???

I was talking to a friend the other day and in passing mentioned that I have plan for a new paint jopb in the near future.. My car is black and gold and I want it repainted the same but he mentioned that alot of people don't know how to paint a car in black properly. I want a kick *** paint job, stipped to the bear metal.. the best but if Im going to spend a **** load on a quality paint job I don't want it to turn out like **** because black is not easy to paint.. is this true?? anyone had there car repainted in black and have it turn out good or ****ty ??

most any quality shop you take it to will know how to paint good. All paint goes on the same, it's just that dark colors show imperfections a lot more than say white. Prep is the key to any good paint job. I wouldn't take it down to metal unless you have paint peeling bad.

If you do, take off all the plastic/fiberglass body trim and sand them. For the main body, use an aircraft coating remover. Do it in the shade though. The sun will fry that stuff and you wind up using twice as much. Make sure to put down a drop cloth to catch the drips too, you don't want to get that stuff on any grass or anything. Also, get some THICK rubber gauntlets and keep a hose handy in case you get it on you. Cold water works best to neutralize it, for some reason warm water makes it hurt worse. Good luck!

Did mine in PPG Concept (DCC) 5 years ago. Mixed clear in the last two coats. Sanded it down flat and buffed. Looks like a black mirror to this day. I paint for a living, and i knew what i was going to use way ahead of time, but there is no other paint to use for black. Do not clear coat black. Mix a little clear in for flow purposes but not a full blown clear application.

When you scratch clear (with a key or a sponge mit) the scratches turn white.

When you scratch single stage black, the scratches are black, and way less noticeable. The swirl marks are less too.
