Man my car stinks bad!
Man my car stinks bad!
Ok my firebird really stinks bad like mildew.
The back hatch glass was replaced before I bought it and was leaking water in bad, I fixed it and figured I would just leave the windows and hatch open a couple of hours a day and let it all dry. Well a month later it still smells like mildew and the fabreze smell is almost as bad.One option I can think of is to replace the carpet but its in excellent shape for 19 years old and im lazy
. Im going to try to blast the rear piece off at the carwash but the lazy factor comes in with the rest of the carpet. Any sugestions on what to use or do with the rest of the carpet besides fabreze? It's really killing me, alergies and stuff so any help would be apreciated!

Did you use the Febreze specifically for auto interior? If not, they have some just for auto interiors, If so, I have used baking soda in the past. Just sprinkle it on, let it set (I waited a couple of days) and vacuum it out. I guess it was like using carpet fresh without the flower smell. It worked for me for cigarette and wet dog smell.

Thanks for the replies guys!
The febreze that I used is indoor I guess kinda flowery smell extra strenght. It dident work so im kinda pushing the car febreze to the maybe corner for the moment. During my lunch break I went home and took out the back carpet and the rear seats and the smell is alot better but still i want to clean the rest of the carpet. I might look into the oder ban or the baking soda. Again thanks guys! Any more sugestions?

if you do get rid of the smell, which I dont think you will ,the carpet and padding underneath is starting to rot and will continue until replaced. The problem isnt the carpet ,its the padding underneath, this stuff is about a 1/2 inch thick and like a sponge. It doesnt get much air so never really dries out.I had a heater core go bad and dump some water in the front floorboard.2 years later I replaced the carpet and the padding was still damp and when I lifted the carpet the smell about knocked me out.replace it,its easy and worth it.
