Acquired a Firebird
Acquired a Firebird
I have recently acquired a 1987 Pontiac Firebird. It is an LT model. It has the carbed 305 V8 motor. The motor runs real well. It does need a carb rebuild but that is not tough. The problem is, the car sat outside for over 6 years in Indiana. The exterior paint is chipping and will need to be redone. Again, the motor is good. I will need new rubber for all the doors, trunk, and windows. The interior is somewhat okay. The seats and carpet could be redone. Of course the dash is cracked like many third gens did. My biggest fear is the underbody. There is a lot of rust down under the car. The last time I jacked the car up, I am pretty sure that half the car fell to the ground. The rust is awful. Will this cost to much to fix or is it worth it? I love the car, but right now it's only worth possible $1000.00. I know that cars are money pits, but will this be a huge money pit? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Anything can be fixed if you have the time, skills and money, but should you? that is the question. Sureface rust is not a big deal, dents not too bad, but IMO once the floors are gone the car is done. Got any pix of the rotted area's?

It all depends on the floors man. If they are too far gone its not worth it in my opinion. Id look for another car thats clean and swap out what you want from the 2 cars into 1
