When I bought my iroc, it didn't have the factory hatch...it had a notch back...I like the notch back, but it is junk...I was going to have work done, to it...but that is a different story for a different thread...

As far as I know there is 4 different types of hatches...( 1 ) no break light .. ( 2 ) break light top off glass outside ... ( 3 ) break light top, but under glass and ( 4 ) break light above the license plate....

What are the years for each hatch ??? And dose all the hatches have the bolts from the hinges coming through the glass ????

I'm trying to find one with the break light above the license plate...

86 was the only year for the high mount break light outside,I don't know about the others.

 

82-85 no 3rd light
86 only outside top mount
87-90 inside spoiler
91-92 inside mounted to rear headliner trim
I have never seen one without the bolts through the glass

 

82-85=no brake light
86=brake light on outside top
87-90=brake light in spoiler over license plate
91-92= brake light inside hatch up top

I found the pic in the photo gallery on 3rd gen...is this break light on the hatch or wing ???

 

The red one in your gallery is in the spoiler, Not sure what you are trying to get at here. Do you want to remove spoiler and still have the 3rd light? cause that is not possible. Do you just want to use the spoiler? You will need to drill for the wiring I believe. Do you want to use the whole hatch? will work if you have the contacts for the brake light in the rear trim. Hope that helps

 

Having the notch back on my iroc ....I never really paid any attention to factory hatches. ..I just new I had seen a few with the break light above the plate...I didn't realize that it was in the spoiler. ..wiring is no problem..a friend of mine rewired the back of my car, makeing my corvette tail lights work like they do on a vette.. .I dont want that spoiler. ..I have the high rise wing, that will go back on...so I guess I'll look for a hatch with the break light under the glass.....

You can use an 82-85 or 91-92 in that case. The light is mounted on the rear headliner trim, not the hatch.

That part I learned the hard way. I bought the rear trim from a 91 thinking it was mounted on the back side of the glass, not the trim. So if you have a black interior, I have a good trim piece but no light in it. You can have it for what I got it for 20 plus ship.

 

Even better yet, we can trade out if yours doesnt have any screw holes busted out.

87 Sport coupes without the spoiler came with the third brake light on the outside of the glass too.
