4h Gen part Into 3rd Gen--needs prompt response please

I found a 4th Gen AC/Heater **** control panel for 20 bucks off a wrecked 99 Trans Am. The guy at the yard emailed me and said it was HVAC. Would my 86 be also HVAC? I just wanted to make sure, so that i am using the right parts and everything will work. Thanks.

HVAC just means Heater/Vent/Air Conditioning.

I don't believe that the late model controls are compatible.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I also thought about looking into this at one point.

Yes...please, if anyone knows if these parts are compatible, taht would help me out greatly. I want the part badly, so it can go with my 99 GAGT headunit that looks just like hte monsoon one in the new TA's. Thanks.

Oh, one more thing....the front turn signals off a 98+ up TA....would those be able to be wired to another car, using the cars wires? or do they have some sort of special connection? I need those for a special project...anyone know? Its very important. Thankx.

I doubt very much that you're looking at a direct bolt-in. The stock thirdgen system uses a series of cables and vacuum hoses to operate the heater box. The 4th gen is most likely just electric controls. You may be able to retro-fit the system, but my guess is it won't be easy.

Well, took another trip down to TACreations today (great people to deal with once again) and took a look at the 4th gen ac controls.

They are about as much cable driven as our controls are, but the unit is considerably bigger and would not appear to fit into the factory console...

Now that the basic opinion is out of the way, if you were up to building or modifying your stock console and really getting into modifying the controls, I belive you could make it work...but I don't think it would be worth it in the long run.

Just my $.02

Hey Guys...

Thanks for your opinions and help. I will worry about the AC/Heat controls later...what do you guys think about the turnsignal/parking lights? Can they be wired up?

Huh? What?

Sorry, missed the turn signal question.

I belive that they are just a plain bulb fixture with a + and -

All of the flasher controlls are usually controled by a relay under the dash...so they should work fine in whatever you need a bulb for.

Hehe...ok....well,basically what I am doing is taking the front turn signals off a 1999 totaled trans am, and wanting to wire them up to an older vehicle for a project. I realize that these lights also act as DRL's(daytime running lamps), use a speical bulb(which i found), and are brighter than the sun. But anyways, these newer lights will be wired on an older car. Thats what i wanted to do.

The wiring on the 99 is a 3 wire system just like the 3rd gen. You wont have any problems.

fyi, they are vinyl. The only leather in a 4th gen is the steering wheel and the "seating surfaces".

good luck getting the doors to fit.
