Door hits ground effect

Yup, the same old problem. But this time the hinges are good.

The driver side door is just fine.. but the passenger side door still drags on the ground effect, destroying the paintjob.
I have recently fixed the hinges and the door doesn't sag at all. If you try to lift the door, the whole car moves, so there's no slop there. And I aligned the door as high up as possible but even this didn't work.

I've heard suggestions as radical as cutting 2mm of steel off the door, which I find a little crazy. Any ideas?

Re: Door hits ground effect

I had a issue where the old owner had tried to jack the car up there and the metal was pushing the GFX up and the door was rubbing it. I had to pull the gfx off and then hammer the metal back down into place. I put a 2x4 down and hit it with a sledge to even that spot back out. Make sure that this is your problem before you start hammering on your car though

If you cant find anything wrong with the car that would cause the problem you could buy this tool from Lon at T.D.S. or take it to a body shop and ask them to do it.

Check the door alignment at the top, in relation to the rear quarter. (See my pic below). If they line up, then the door is where it should be. The GFX are pushed up (or the car has been wrecked in that area).

GFX are mounted on a somewhat flimsy flange. Take the piece off and you'll see what I mean. Can be easily re-shaped to move GFX into position.

Re: Door hits ground effect

I removed the plastic GFX.
The metal underneath looked good, apart from one spot where there were small rocks between the metal sheets. This was pushing the GFX up a little bit.
I removed as many rocks as possible and got the GFX as straight as I could; some rocks still remain in there though, since I didn't want to completely take apart the metal sheets.

As I was doing this I noticed that it's actually the striker bolt that is the biggest problem. Therefore I started to think the door really wasn't aligned perfectly.
Here are some pics. What do you think?

Pic 2 and 3 look like the door may be sagging a bit. Certainly not bad, tho. Might be a combination of low door and high GFX.

You say the striker may be the problem. Does the striker guide the door up or down?
