Rear Hatch Closing

When I bought the car the hatch didnt close all the way. I know the mechanism that closes the trunk in GM vehicles the last couple of inches. Now, after screwing around with it the little motor buzzes and spins everytime the rear hatch closes.

Anyone have a remedy or tips? If you guys have Q's I can go look and post my findings. I need to get this fixed because I am going to paint hte car in the next month.

I'm not quite following what the problem is, but here's my situation - the motor apparently always was on, never shut off, so it was disconnected prior to my getting the vehicle. So, there was about an inch and a half of play when the thing was "shut" which let in all sorts of water, etc. Just closing a door would cause the whole hatch to come up about an inch. This was because the motor's on rails, but not working, so the hatch would lock to the mechanism, but the mechanism would slide freely. Last week, I had my mechanic weld the hatch motor to the rails when the hatch was in a closed position...now no problem at all. Hope this helps!

Thanks. My situation is similar but it doesn't slide. I think it is some bum sensors.

It sounds as if the gearnut is ruuined. Here is a picture of it. Available from GM. I give up. Just click on the link. Lon

I had somewhat of the same problem. The previous owner had slamed the hatch shut and broke the plastic plate that mounts the motor and therefore the whole assembly. I think it was ten bucks at the dealership.
