Struts to use w/ Fiberglass Hood?

The problem i am having is with the opening of my hood. Its fiberglass w/ the stock steel hood lift struts. When I open it i have to partly lift one side and then walk around to the other side and lift it up partly, then I have to walk around to the front and finish lifting the hood up. As you can see this is a pain in the @$$. The guy i bought the car from said I would need to get the struts that were on an '82-83 camaro that came w/ a fiberglass hood. Does anyone know what he was talking about? What do I need to do to fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a fiberglass hood on my Iroc until I swapped it back to a stock hood. I talked a friend out of throwing away his worn out struts. They worked perfectly for the lighter hood. Your problem could also be from improper alignment ot the hood and hinges.

Yes, he is right. Worn out struts are the best for lighter fiberglass hoods. I have the stock struts on my camaro still with my fiberglass cowl, and the struts would not hold up my stock camaro hood, but worked great for my lighter hood. Get old struts out of the junkyard (they sell for cheap) and try that.

When I went to Autozone to get hood struts I aked the guy at the counter what the part number was for my car and he asked me what kind of car, year, engine size and if I had a steel or fiberglass hood. So I guess that means that they must make them for a fiberglass hood. D
