How can I remove the 4 bumper pieces?
Has anyone removed the four black bumper pieces from their Firebirds. I need to remove old cracking paint and repaint them. I coud still do this with them on, but if I could easily get them off I wouldn't have to worry about body damage. Any help would be apreciated.

Unfortunatly there is no easy way to get those off. You'd have to end up removing the entire bumper cover (front & back) to get them off.

Thanks, I figured it could be a tuff job. The guy who painted my car just, before he sold it to me, did not tape off these pieces. Do you have any idea how I could remove body paint from them. The paint is already cracking and comming off and it looks very bad.
To get them off you will need to remove the bumper covers themselves and on hte back there are 8mm screws holding them in to tabs on the back side of the bumper covers.
I personally am going t oreplace my rear bumper cover with one from a 84 Firebird t orid my self of the black bumper things.
As for the front i'll just need to find a shop that can mount a flush piece of plastic or whatever in place of the front ones and paint over it body color,i am just gonna do it that way cause my Formula is a 90 and a 82084 style bumper cover would not look right to me and i don't really care for the 91-92 style

To get the paint of the 'bumperettes' (black plastic thingys) you can do one of 2 things. Both involve taping off around the surrounding area.
1. if the paint is an enamel or single stage urethane (both similar in looks/shine,, glossy but no depth shine) you can just get the paint off with wiping it down (takes some time) laquer thinner or acetone.
2. There is a urethane bumper paint stripper that you can apply just the same as regular paint stripper but it's not harmful to plastics.
Either way,, it will take a bit of elbow grease but, it's still easier than taking the bumper covers off.
