86 automatic shifter removal
I did a search, and I'm not quite clear on how to remove the shift **** on my 86 auto. It has the ball shifter.
Does the button just pull out? Is there a clip in the front of the shifter? A rather detailed instruction would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

NOT sure about camaros, but in my firebird, there is a little clip on the front side that holds it on. Take the smallest flat screwdriver you can find, and pull out the clip.

You pop the button out (carefully) and then you will see a c-clip(snap ring) at the bottom of the ****. There is a specific tool that you may need to locate (snap ring pliers) to remove the ****. The **** just lifts off.

I changed mine with a very small screw driver. We then put the leather wrapped ball on and poped the c clip back on. Turn the button slightly and pull up. It set's in some grouves. Not hard to do and even easier to re install once you can see it. Here's a tip;Go to the junk yard and practice on some wreck. That's what I did so I wouldn't mess my car up.
