Grant steering wheel on an Air bag car??

Anyone know how to put a GT Grant steering wheel on a 91 Firebird with airbags? The Grant website says you can't and they don't make a kit for it. I'm sure there is a way..but I don't want to mess around without some good advice. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm guessing they're saying you can't because it might be illegal for them to sell a non-airbag steering wheel for a car that came with an airbag. I think they're the same type of attatchment as all the other 3rd gen's. Anyone else know otherwise?

as far as i'm aware, you won't be able to do this...trying to tamper with it might cause the airbag to go off, and if you've ever had the pleasure of one smacking you in the face, it doesn't tickle.
but...if you really want to...disconnect your battery 1st, then try taking apart your steering wheel column, try to locate the wires for the airbag, disconnect them, then take it out, but be careful.

Actually, there is a way. I just took the airbag off one of my 91 Firebird's. Disconnect the battery and pull the fuse for the air bag circuit out. (should be INF RES or something like that) After that you just remove the torx bolts in the back of the steering wheel (they do not come all the way out), and disconnect the airbag wire connector in the back and it comes right out. You can put a different steering wheel in place of it too. I don't think it's all that hard from what I've heard. Best thing to do to find out for sure would be to search the archives. Goodluck and be safe.

I have a 92 Z and put one on. Just disconnect the battery and go from there.

You can do it. But i heard its illegal to take an airbad off of a car equipped with one. But dont let the law stop ya. Hell, i took off all my emissions equipment.
