89 Formula paint and body..suggestions
89 Formula paint and body..suggestions
I have just purchased an 89 Formula after I backed out on an 87. I picked this car up with 70000 on it. The car has no rust on the body and minimal on the underbody, what would be the best way to touch up the underbody so I dont rust it out. I plan on this being a project car but I dont want to bust my wallet. A man at a local hotrod shop told me a good 2000 for an underneath freshen up, is that a good price or is their another way to tackle this? The body also will need a paint job in the future right now its a good condition red with a few spots where he touched up because of chipping or minor scratches but overall great. I would rather have the whole car done. What good paint shops are around is macco any good? The same guy at the hotrod shop told me a real good paint job door jams everything pulled apart basically would cost me 5000 a little to much for me because I want to to basically a full resto on this car and not pay a new corvette price, lol.
ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ANSWERS WOULD BE GREAT THANKS!

A high quality paint job, everything pulled off for 5K is not horrible. just a good paint job is typically around 4k. for that price it should be a HIGH quality paint, and polished to show winning perfection.
You could do the Maaco thing, but I assume they use cheep paint, and when you go back to paint it again you will have to superstip the whole car because the paint will raise on you.
Look at this Hotrod guys work, and see if it is really worth it. To paint under the car is a PITA, because there is a lot of crap & stuff to mess with.
If you want to do the work yourself, you will have to make sure the surface is super clean, and free of rust, I can only assume this guy will do that for you. otherwise it will flake off where it is dirty. I have considered one of those special jacks that you attach to your wheel studs to turn the car on its side to work on underbodies. They go for under $500 bucks. Look in Hemmings
