Two tone interior

I have decided to change the interior of my RS to a red/black combo. I like the red in the interior there is just too much of it. What should I use to dye flexible plastic parts, what about hard plastic? I know the stuff from the auto parts store is junk, not even gonna try that stuff. Please don't say this is rice, Ok. I'm not dyeing it neon pink or anything, just red and black to match the outside.

visit your junk yard and look for some stuff, you won't have to dye or paint. I'm making my all grey a grey/black combo.

If you haven't started this project yet, you might want to think about it a bit. Having done one interior swap in the past, and now I'm heading into my second, I kinda wish I'd just found happiness in the stock parts.

1st, painting panels is something I'd avoid if at all possible. The plastic interior parts are both polypropa-whatever and ABS. The ABS parts are the pieces that are typically broken, such as the door sills, the trim that holds the headliner up at the back, and rear shoulder seat belt bulges. Some aftermarket suppliers of thirdgen parts offer cleaners, primers, and paint for ABS panels and completely different cleaners, primers, and paints for PPP. From experiance I can tell you that the Duplicolor stuff you can find anywhere is crap. It'll chip and flake off if it gets bumped.

2nd, finding a complete set of matching interior parts in the junkyard isn't easy. Since you're dealing with a convertible this is even more relevant. Also if you ever decide to go back it won't be easy to repaint the panels.

After my first swap I promised myself I'd never do it again unless I found all the pieces I wanted in the junkyard on the same day. I went back on my decision about a week ago now, and have about 2/3rds of the pieces I need. The missing pieces as common as they may be are still holding up my project.

FWIW Gray is the easiest color to find parts for, Black has been the hardest to find for me.

Thanks for the info. I am trying to use as many factory parts as possible, I don't intend to alter any of my convertible only parts. I have an all red interior now. I plan on adding black armrests, red sunvisors, and get my seats redone in the factory pattern just red and black. I want to add white (or maybe silver)face gauges and make them glow red. Some parts I'm stuck dyeing though, like the airbag part of the wheel. I also want the trim around the guages red.
