I haven't seen any aftermarket wheels with airbags. I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt so decreased safety is not really an issue. If it's an issue to you, ask yourself, "Would I buy a pre-airbag third gen?" The answer is probably yes. MMMMM, IROC.

Anyway, anyone have a non-airbag wheel on a vehicle that had an airbag. I hate most Grant wheels--they look cheap to me, like they came off of a Powerwheels or something

I like the momo wheels, I love the Billet Specialties wheels, but they are sooo expensive. Lecarra has some nice stuff, too. Shoot, I like the looks of the three spoke firebird wheels a lot--that would be nice.

Well i didn't really see a question in your post, but I have an after market wheel on my originally air bag equipped 91 firebird. I have a grant wheel because i really cant see spending all that money for a steering wheel when I have important things to put the money into ie. engine, suspension, brakes. but I just removed the fuse and took it all out. I took all the sensors out also. the light stays on, but you can pull the bulb. If you or anyone reading this has questions email me.

FYI, it is against federal law to replace a steering wheel with an airbag with an aftermarket wheel with no airbag. Not like anyone will ever know but if some cop or inspector wanted to be a ***** he could write u up. I replaced my non airbag steeringwheel in my 89 rs with a GT grant wheel and I love it. Way better than the stock clunky wheel. Wish my truck didnt have an airbag in the steeringwheel!!

The question is really in the topic line. I was just anticipating someone asking why would I ever want to take out the airbag or something.

You're both right about the cost issue. Really nice wheels are outrageously expensive. Notice though, that I did say I hate MOST Grant wheels. They have a couple that look pretty good. I really like the leather-wrapped 3-spoke wheels with the firebird logo in the the middle from the non-airbag 3rd gens. I may have to search ebay for that.

Pulled mine out along with all related parts(sensors, harnesses, etc).I get props all the time on a Grant wheel that I custom painted to match the interior.Momo wheels are nice, but like someone else stated,I'd rather spend the money on other aspects of the vehicle.

This is the wheel I have now.

I'm thinking about putting my airbag wheel back in though.

Like alot of things it is probably not illegal to remove the airbag from a car & drive it. What would more likely be illegal is to remove the airbag & then sell the car. I dunno for sure but that would make more sence to me...

Well, I don't plan on selling my car anytime soon . The only problem I have with the stock wheel is how squishy it is. I would like something firm. What are the leather wrapped (mine's not) airbag wheels in the camaros like? Anyone have a black (weren't they all black?) leather-wrapped 3-spoke firebird wheel they want to sell me? I want one in good condition/have to see pics first, but anyone interested?
