Is there a door mounting secret?

Hey all, I got some new doors for my 83 Z28 because the drivers side hinge was shot I guess the bushings had been bad for ages or something, plus it had a punch around the lock. Anyways back to the point The passenger door went up comparatively easy. The drivers door is almost always hanging too low to hit the strike, and once or twice it has been too high. The problem is that I can get it to sit fine if I only use the two back bolts for each hinge, but if I try to line them up as to use the third guide or whatever it is, The door sits low. Now I'm sad because the jack bent the new door on the bottom.

Just wondering if there was some sort of trick or a preferred order to put the bolts in?

If you take the vent out of the door jamb and loosen the striker, the striker has a tiny bit of adjustment. It sounds like your farther off then just a little bit though. What I do is put all 6 bolts in loosely and have a helper hold the door up while its in a nearly closed position. You should be able to move the door up and down and tighten all the bolts when your happy with the position. Having a person instead of a jack will prevent any further damage.
Maybe a dumb question but are the hinges any good on the "new" door? The hinges could be completely shot on the drivers side causing issues.

Oh neat, I assumed the striker only went in one way. So when you say hold it in a mostly closed position; what does that entail because I had tried doing it with the door pretty much closed, resting on the striker and everything. But then when I would open the door it managed to drop like an inch or so. Thank you sir, probably a good idea to use a person my thought was that the jack would hold it more still.

Hinges should be fine unless I broke them, worked great when they were on the other car. T
