1985 Trans Am Rear Hatch Lock not Working

Hi:

After 30 years, looks like the Rear Hatch Lock finally went. I cannot fit the Key into the lock anymore. I do not see anything thats stands out, looks like someting the lock cylinder itself. I am not sticking in a screw driver to mess up the lock cylinder any further, especially if there is a chance to get it to open.

Problem: Rear Hatch will not Open. Early 1985 TA does not have a Pull Down Motor, so no button to push. Problem is there one screw on top of the Rear Hatch Trim Piece in the Interior Hatch that I need to remove before I can get to Remove the Hatch Trim Piece and Lenses to expose the lock.

I have a New GM Lock Cylinder Kit for the Rear Hatch, GM Part # 20496710. Just in case some may need this Part #

Thinking a Mobile Auto Lock Smith may be able to Open it, Anyone Recommened a Mobile Auto Locksmith in Northern New Jersey at all ??

I will remove Remove the Interior Trim Piece and Rear Taillight Lenses once the Hatch is opened

Any Recommenedation would be Greatly Appreciated !

You have all the pieces there to do a complete repair so if it was me i would drill the lock out.

There are two routes you can take if you don't want to drill it out. Hire a locksmith to open it some how, or tear up the interior panel to pry the hatch open.

Locksmith should be able to open it. You can drill it out as is, but having the hatch open will make the job easier. Looks like you have the correct replacement parts. Note how the connector bar is attached to lock cylinder when you remove the old one.
