hi

I would like to install a parking sensor with the "radar" band, so I wont have to drill the stock bumper.
I need access to all the internal side of the front bumper, either one the market lines of the image below.





Question: is it possible? What do I have to remove?
Can I access the internal part without removing it from the car?
Is it sufficient to remove this part?

Where you have the green line there is the "egg crate" crash absorber. You could make room for something in front of it with a little cutting, but you will need to remove the front bumper cover (nose cone) for that. Below that is all open space. You can easily get to that area just by removing the belly pans underneath. Might even be able to install something without removing both of them. Let us know what sensor you use and how it works.

so I'll have to raise the car, remove the belly pans and I should find the space needed. I think ill have to remove all the bumper anyway. Is it a time demanding procedure?

 

The bumper cover can be a pain depending on the condition of the mounting hardware.
It is attached to the fenders using a metal support bar with studs. These are usually pretty rusty by now. The nuts are inside the fenders at the upper forward edge. 10mm I think but could be anything if it was removed before. The top edge is held on with 7mm bolts at the hood latch plate. Belly pans have to be removed before. Should be a pic from the service manual on the forum here somewhere.

Anyway I see the procedure is not easy I'll try in the next days and see what happens.

No the metal bar isn't visible, it runs across the bumper cover above the green line in the first shot. Here's a pic of one. Part of it is visible next to the turn signals.
If I remember correctly the Trans ams also have a metal retaining bracket below the support bar to connect the fender ground effects to the lower part of the nose cone. I've got some more tear down pics on my other computer I can post on Tuesday.
