Data Plate for a 1985 Trans Am?

So long story short, my grandpa gave me his 1985 trans am w/ 47,000 original miles. Its a super fun car, has the LB9 305 TPi, T-Tops, and is just a fun car to drive around in, But as I do more maintenance and miscellaneous repairs, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the car. I found a website that gave me info about the VIN number, but how much more information can i get from the data plate?

F 01E 2FS87 L 617995
78L 78U WATER
AR9 CC1
D S 51541
045137 51541

These are the digits as they appear on the Tag in front of the radiator, under the hood, which I assume is the data plate... any information is appreciated!

Look in the console. There's a SPID lable in there stuck to the side. It lists every option on the car. then just post it here or look the codes up.

Congrates on the 85. Grandpa is cool!

Re: Data Plate for a 1985 Trans Am?

01E is the 5th week in January (date of body buck assembly)
2FS87 is the body style
L is Van Nuys assembly plant
78L 78U is GM paint code WA8524 Dark Red water based paint system
AR9 is the Euro style bucket seats with manual recline
CC1 is T-tops

Not sure on the rest except you have a very cool grandpa.

Sounds like a great car, and Welcome to the forum! Do you have any photos of it?

I will put pictures up when I wash it next, but it is clean and very original! runs well but isn't perfect. Overall just a fun car to work on and drive on sunny days!

Have any pictures of your Grandfather with it? Would love to see those.

If I live long enough I hope to be like him some day.
