IROC Verification ?

IROC Verification ?
Hey guys, I am looking at a car that's been sitting a while. The owner says he's pretty sure it's an IROC. It has IROC wheels on it and a funky flame paint job so I am wondering by looking at the VIN, how do I tell if it's an actual IROC?
EDIT: The 8th digit is an 8 so that tells me the engine is the L98 which was only available in the IROC. Correct?

It's a 1987. There's no sticker in the middle arm rest compartment. I did some research and looks like it's an IROC, according to that 8th digit being an 8.
