I'm sad right now!
Well, hopefully you had it insured well enough that you can get something equally as interesting. There are still a lot of really good deals out there Ed!
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Very sorry about the way this worked out Ed. I hope your next car is another third gen., so we can all enjoy your continued contributions (selfish reason). But whatever you choose to buy, I hope it brings you as much enjoyment as this car did.

People who knew the car, will look at it and try to find fault in the repair work, but done right (to me) it will never fell the same.
So it is with a heartfelt sorry that I say, it goes to rest with the Insurance Company. They paid 100% of what it was insured for (please don't ask) but the buyout was way too high for me to keep it or somebody else to buy it. I hope to stay on the website and will let you guys know when I find the next SHOWCAR and when it hits hits the circuit.
Sorry for your loss. My worst nightmare! Hope you find your next showcar
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
I really hate it Ed. Yours would have been my COTM choice this month hands down. My favorite Formula on the board. I am sure you will find another great car .
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
You put way, way too much thought into this and at the end of the day, you cared only about the value but not the vehicle itself.
It's a shame you decided to get rid of such of beautiful car that you had so much history with over something so minor. I think you got a bit in your emotions over this, but you know this is the Internet and that's just one man's opinion and will be a many more.

Good luck in your future thirdgen endeavors.
The picture DO NOT SHOW the extent of everything that was pushed out of alignment. The Insurance appraisal was for almost $17,000 and included notes that said there could be MORE due to the fact that there was a lot of damage UNDERNEATH that you could not see. If it was SOMETHING SO MINOR, I would have fixed it in an instant, but not with the work that was neeed to bring it back. I'am pretty sure that if a body shop bought the car, they could afford to invest the time and effort to put it back right. So it may resurface in the future and if it does, most surely someone will recognize it as ED's Formula. RIP

Wow that is a SHOCK to see!!! Your beautiful car was a great inspiration for me. I'm really sad for your loss and hope you'll find a worthy replacement!

Insurance estimates also GROSELY exaggerate cost and take the most time consuming, by the book approach. My car is valued at and covered in the amount of $16,000 and I can tell you that if it were in the same situation, I would had made every attempt possible to repair it.
Like was said, I hold a state insurance license and the insurance companies love taking people for rides.
Never-the-less, sorry for your loss and the best of luck to you.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Sorry for your loss Ed, I went thru insurance hell w/my GTA. Insur Co's suck.
They dropped my car off the back of a car hauler when I had it delivered from FL to NJ.
Slid across I-95 at 930 at night ... wacked a sign in reverse. Fixed it ...
But hey you should have at least kept those brochures and papers ... that's personal property.

Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Pre-Bidding has started and will end on Monday October 25th. It WILL HAVE A SALVAGE TITLE. I would hope a Body Shop will take it and have it reborn. It would have cost me $4,000 for the buy back and the current pre-bid is up to $3,125.
Just a few photos of the "NEW" Bird. I enjoyed my Formula, but the improvements made by PONTIAC are really noticeable, such as the ride/ the brakes/ squeaks and rattles etc. The fact that it is a very rare collectable, still keeps the PONTIAC nameplate on the road. When was the last time you even saw a really nice 1993-97 Trans Am, no less a 25th MINT 6-speed manual Anniversary TA. So to you guys who still have your 3rd Gen show cars, keep on eye out for that loon in the next lane.
One small mod was the Black plastic PONTIAC lettering inserts and the We Pace Excitement white license plate frame. I get excited too easily!

The Insurance adjuster put a figure of $16,748 with what could be seen. Unknown factor was not getting the car onto a lift and checking out what may have happened to any undercarriage. Now I also see that the Formula has a Salvage Title. I would have wanted to save the car, but the amount of time/ effort and cost to do that was way over the top. I think what I was able to acquire in its place was a pretty good swap, all things considered.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Buy it back, put it away and keep searching here and ebay to find factory panels etc and then put it together. If you sell it you will never regret and forgive yourself.

Insurance company has most likely already paid the claim off and has taken ownership of the car. Its no longer his. He replaced it with a nice 4th gen. Im pretty sure Ed is ready to move on from this terrible ordeal with the car.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Sorry to hear about the loss of your 91 . . . I just lost my 2000 in a nasty wreck earlier this month, so I know exactly all the emotions you are going through . . . thankfully my buy back was very low, so I got a generous as stated value settlement, and kept the car. We will be rebuilding a new car from the saved parts.
Oddly in IL a car over 9 years of age the Sate did not require scrapping the title, so I have a clear, non salvage title . . no clue what I'll do with it after I save all the parts I want..
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Just curious as to the FINAL FATE of the Formula. There was a Pre-Bid of $3,125 and then went to open Bidding, but because I am not a registered bidder, I could NOT see who OR what the car was finally bought for AND WHO BOUGHT it! Ed
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Hey, the price started out as $8,950 and in a month it ONLY came down $2,000. Add the appraised amount of $17,000 to bring it back (without looking underneath or checking it out on a lift) somebody is going to have a REALLY nice Formula with a Salvaged Title.
I just went through this thread. It looks great in those pictures. You would think though that someone could have spent an extra 30 minutes or so adjusting that headlight door better.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Hmm interesting the add says clean title and no mention of accident damage. Disappointed buyer in the making.
On a side note I actually sold the owner the parts he needed to fix the car. He has a super nice z he restored so I'm sure the repairs were at least done right.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
I emailed the seller this morning and asked if the car was all
original and if it had a clean title and he responded back by saying the title was clean and the car was all original. I should email him back and attach a few post accident pics.

'should'... Do it!!! Please!!
Send the exact same email you sent this morning, word for word. But with some of the photos. LOL. I wager you don't get a response back.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
I sent him the pics and said " you sure that car is all original from the dealer with a clean a title?"
He responded back with "what am I looking at?"
I wrote back "what is the VIN?"
He then responds back "Is your name Ed?"
I reply with "You're bullshitting me about the car. It was wrecked and now has a salvage title and you're lying to people about it. Don't ever underestimate what people know. I know the history on this car. Youre a scam artist and I'll make sure that no one buys this car unless they know it was wrecked, Repaired and has a salvage title. Fix your ad or I'll keep flagging it."
He comes back with "I am selling this car for a friend & co-worker. I just spoke with him. I was told that it was in fact in a accident & that he bought it off a guy named Ed Kazinski. Those pictures might in fact be this car?
Again, if I am selling this for someone else!! If you are interested, great! I just wrote the info I was given! Please play detective with someone else!!! As the Ad says,..minor restoration."
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
HAHA!! Excellent!!! He backtracks when you call him out. "Minor restoration".... so thats what accidents are now, restorations. "Yea, I just got into a restoration today, some broad ran into me and restored me". Hahahaha. What a fuc*in clown this guy is. First off, $20,000 for a 3rd gen is totally bonkers. Yes Ed had an amazing car that deserved the attention it recieved during the time he owned it. Heck, we all love our cars, but 20G's is a whole lotta coin, for a 3rd gen. Then throw in a "restoration"...this thief is greedier than most scam artists. Hopefully he doesn't find a buyer to get burned on this. Maybe offer him 2 G's for it.... lol
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
Everyone just needs to flag it and hope it gets removed. But eventually someone is going to get completely raped on this car. It will probably keep bouncing from one owner to another as buyers find out it was totaled and sell it.
Re: HELP!! DAMAGE TO MY 1991 FIREBIRD FORMULA SHOWCAR-MAY TOTAL IT
they total a car now if the fenders are smashed/dented.....when my car was brand new and back from Lingenfelters. I had it at a car show... was bumped into by another show car/truck. tire hit my fender..exaust pipe scatched my hood..
they paid $3000(1 of 4 Z28s done by LPE) to replace the hood and fender with new GM parts (small dent in fender/cheaper to get a newone) and scratch on hood/over to hood bumps (from exhaust on truck)... I replaced to hood with a cowl fiberglass unit..and new GM made fender with paint..at a top body shop..this was in 1992/93. today they would total the car I'm sure... I even sold the Z28 hood 15 years later for $300....lol.
if that was a new F Body.. it would have been repaired....not totaled...just sayn..20 years down the road..and the new F body would be totaled..
makes me sick to think of anyones car getting in a accident..
