Rear Quarter Lip Rust Repair

Figured I should make a thread to document fixing this, as well as gather some info and advice on how to tackle this job. Basically, my car has had almost all of it's rust repaired aside from this rear quarter. What it looks like happened was someone hit the car and put a good sized dent in it, along with a smaller ding a few inches away. I've seen a thread where someone replaced the entire rear quarter, and I definitely don't think that is necessary. My buddy at a local body shop told me to just cut a good sized patch from the donor car and weld it in, but I would love to get more opinions. I'll post a picture shortly.

I dug this picture up too, this shows how the quarter is an inner and outer skin, I'm thinking I can get away with only replacing the outer skin, as my inner skin hopefully is only surface rust right now

I didn't take many pictures of this during the process, but here is how I fixed it. I used a big tool from the local body shop, where you yank back hard and it pulls on the metal. Kind of like a slide hammer but more hardcore. This pulled out most of the dent you see in the above picture. I then cut out the rusted area and made my own little patch to replace it.

Re: Rear Quarter Lip Rust Repair

You can see clearly where I replaced metal. It still needs a bit more grinding and shaping, then some filler and it will be like new again. The section near the front of the wheel well I replaced was caused by the foam between the two pieces of metal absorbing water then keeping the metal moist and eventually rusting through. When I welded, I made sure to remove as much of this foam/ adhesive stuff as possible so it didn't set the car on fire, or rust again. Anyone with a similar issue can feel free to PM me or post here with questions or help
