Damaged 84 TA, anyone put 85-up fenders on earlier 3rd gen
Bottom line- have an 84 TA I bought to fix up for my daughter (three months before she was born in 2009). Anyhow, being active Army I move about every 2-3 years. During one of those moves the TA rolled over front of trailer with significant damage to RH fender and minor damage to LH fender. Recently, I took the RH fender off to continue the build job. The bottom corner is so damaged I'm not sure if I can repair. Having a hell of a time finding a 82-84 TA finder with extractor holes under a small fortune. Can find one in that year for standard firebird, without extractor holes. Can also find 85-92 with extractor holes everywhere.
I've searched everywhere on forums and some have said 82-84 and 85-92 fenders not compatible at all. Also some say difference in extractor hole size, difference in ground effects holes, difference in nose mount, etc. I really just need ground truth.
I am decent with metal work. So, GFX holes do not scae me, as well as, minor bumping to get fender to mount to nose. Unfortunately, my welder needs replaced and with a known upcoming move to an unknown location, I'm reluctant to replace until I know I'm staying stateside so patching is currently VERY difficult. I do not want to lose momentum on the project. Additionally, my daughter, now 7 years old, is itching to help me get her car up and going and it breaks my heart to be stuck on the fender right now.
Has anyone put a 85-92 fender on a 82-84 (84 more specifically) with extractor, with or without GFX (currently I don't have complete GFX and want to put on, but not a must)? If so, what modifications are required to make this fit work.
Thank you for all helpful replies. I'm currently in central Kansas area, just in case anyone near me has 84 TA parts.

Physically, the 85+ fenders will fit. As you mentioned, however, the extractor sizes are different. If you were to go the 85+ route, you'd need to replace both sides to ensure symmetry. Ground effects also have higher mounting holes on the 85+, so you'd have to drill lower holes (and probably wallow them out a bit for fitment) to accommodate the lower mounting holes. I *think* the ground effects will cover the higher holes, though, so you may not need to fill them if you don't feel the need to.

The 85+ TA fenders will work fine. The only difference will be ground effect hole location. The 85-90 vent hole IS the same size as the 82-84. The vent itself is different, not the hole. You can also use any 82-92 Firebird fender without the vent hole, just have to drill holes fro the ground effects if you have them.
