Side door and fender moldings
Stupid question I'm sure. Repainting my 1987 Firebird, and the side moldings had been painted to match the car. The car had been resprayed some time before I bought it. The car is bright red, and when I sanded the moldings down, I found that the actual plastic/ compound of the molding is red.
Were these moldings painted to match from factory, or were they made in corresponding colors.... red for red cars, black for black cars, etc.
If they are supposed to go on the car unpainted; what would be the best way to recondition them?

yes the Reds are Red, the Whites are White and the Blacks are Black are made with the colored material. These are made to be painted over with the new color.Hang on to them, they are very hard to find.

awesome – thank you for clearing that up… I really appreciate it… I didn't want to paint them if they weren't supposed to be…

Re: Side door and fender moldings
While these moldings are color cast when made, they can be painted just like the bumpers:
sand lightly, clean thoroughly, adhesion promoter, base-coat, clear-coat. Attach with standard
3M trim adhesive. Easy-Peazy

Re: Side door and fender moldings
Just be careful during r&r of them, they have metal strips in there and they are hard to get strait once bent.
