Power window regulator,motor and glass

Was wondering if anyone has tried to remove all three in one piece. Can it be done or should I remove the glass then the regulator and motor assembly. Also the spring in the regulator, I assume that it assists in opening the window, not closing. Any good write ups on remocal of said items? Thanks.

Yikes! Yeah, that's not gonna happen. The window BARELY fits through the slot with the track still riveted to the glass. Even then you have to have all the rubber out of the way, all the tracks removed from the regulator, and position it just right.

The disassembly method according to Hoyle, is to remove the two rivets that hold the glass to the track, and lift out the glass. To remove the regulator there are 4 rivets that are obvious. I have never tried to remove the regulator with the motor still attached, but if you can pull it off there's no need to worry about the spring. If you remove the motor you'll probably want to lock the regulator in place to keep the spring restrained. IIRC there's a position where you can insert a nut/bolt to lock it down.

Re: Power window regulator, motor and glass

Yeah, Im basically preparing the car for paint. The doors are stripped of everything except the latch and the felts. I have a set of brand new GM regulators. They are in the open position secured with a nut and bolt. I was thonking of replacing them to see if it would "tighten" up the windows a bit and maybe help with the rattles and such. I'm also replacing the lock actuators and window motors. Didn't want to drill holes in the inner panels to replace the window motors and do it"properly" guess I'll just have at it and see. Thanks Drew.
