Removing Door Moldings

I just recently bought a 92 RS. I've seen a few posted here that have the door moldings removed and i really like the smooth look it gives. how much bodywork is required to pull that off?

Re: Removing Door Moldings

How are they attached? they don't go through the outer door shell? my paint is in good shape, but i don't want to do damage, or create work i'm not prepared to do.

Re: Removing Door Moldings

They're glued onto the car...but if the car was ever repainted, you might want to think twice about removing the moulding, because it's very likely that the moulding wasn't removed...meaning there's a different layer of paint under them.

Re: Removing Door Moldings

GM used double sided foam tape to hold them on.

Re: Removing Door Moldings

Don't underestimate the protection they provide and the damage they can hide. Peeled the molding off my project car and found a crease all the way down the door, and rust spots where they repainted up to the molding and left cracked paint underneath open to the elements. It didn't look nearly as bad with the molding in place.
