Anyone have T-top history Knowledge

Hey lads, I need anyone's experience from the years gone by and what they have come across. I have a buddy that's looking to get into a GTA after years out of a 3rd gen. He still has an awesome '78 he brings to the TA Nats, but that's getting off topic.
He wants a 350 and T-tops. He found 2 cars in his search that seem really good and asked me my thoughts. Here's the thing, they are both 1990 cars, T-tops, and 350. Yes 5.7. I asked him to get the VIN #'s and check the 8th digit was an 8. they both are. The one owner says his is 1 of 160 something that came with T-tops and 350 that year.
So we all have talked about '87 Canadian cars having that combo and '89 both countries having that combo, and all other years hardtops. So have any of you heard of early 1990 cars maybe sliding through the assembly line getting the 350/T-tops??? Cause it's news to me.

Thanks fellas

I don't know about the GTA's but I have a 92 Formula 350 with factory T-Tops. I think there were around 300 made. I suppose it's possible.

Thank you for the input, makes things we all thought weren't available seem possible like you said. I guess there may actually have been 350/T-tops all the years from '87-'92, even if just small numbers.

Yes, 350 and t tops were available in the later years (1991 and 1992) but not on a Trans Am or GTA in those years. I believe the only 350 and t tops for the GTA was in 1989. I have both a 1991 Formula and 1992 Formula with a 350 and factory t tops as there were a handful of them made in 91/92.

Re: Anyone have T-top history Knowledge

check the service parts identification label (make sure the vin on the label matches that of the car. If it says CC1 (or whatever the t-top code is), then it came from the factory with t-tops

Thanks for the help guys, thats a good idea, the codes on the car. I'll tell my buddy to look at them when he goes see the car.
