90 RS hatch striker help

I'm new to the boards. I'm restoring a 90 RS. I just replaced the trunk motor and it works great. The problem is that the striker on the hatch seem to be to far to the rear to allow to the motor to grab it. Any suggestions.???

Re: 90 RS hatch striker help

When you close the hatch does the spoiler stick out farther back than the sides?
if it does search for hatch alignment and see if that sounds like the problem.
The hatch rear panel over time slides farther down the glass . Some from pressure from the struts and other old age things. This can move the panel back and cause your problem since the striker goes with it
