Curious if anyone knows if vehicle weights listed on the title are from actually weighing the car when issuing the title, or if they come up with them another way? The previous title of my Formula was from Virginia and it says Empty weight: 2902. Wondering if they list an empty weight as in no passengers, or empty being something along the lines of motorcycles that have a dry weight (no fuel/fluids etc..)? Anybody have any insight? This is all to satisfy curiosity, was expecting (from tech data listed on various sites) closer to 3300 lbs for the Formula, but a sub 3k curb weight is a nice thought. I am hoping to get by the local recycle center some day to get it weighed for grins if I end up off work earlier enough sometime.

I don't know how they come up with the weights,but they can be way off: my 06 GMC canyon is listed at 4850# on title,but the little truck weighs 3420 my '85 f150 has 3300 listed but it actually weighs right at 4000...The situation with the Canyon wrong weight is a bother because the 4850 on the title gets it into a higher,more expensive to register weight class-advised the DMV of the issue,but the process to get it changed is apparently bothersome and complicated.My '82 z28 says 3135 on title but I saw an '82 z with all the same equipment weigh in at 3440.
